Nominating and Governance Committee

The Mission of the Nominating and Governance Committee is:

1.  To solicit, screen and recommend the best people available for service on the USA Field Hockey Board and its standing committees;

2.  To scrutinize the ethical considerations of the Board, committees and business operations of the Board, committees and business operations of USA Field Hockey;

3.  To scrutinize and recommend on USA Field Hockey governance procedures to ensure the highest degree of transparency and compliance. 
 

Nominating and Governance Committee Members

Bruce Elliott
Partner
Conlin, McKenney & Philbrick, P.C.
Ann Arbor, Mich.

A partner in the firm of Conlin, McKenney & Philbrick, P.C., Bruce Elliott specializes in the areas of business law, commercial litigation and multimillion dollar commercial real property transactions.

With a committment to non-profit organizations as part of his professional career and personal life, Elliott has provided extensive pro-bono legal services including revisions to bylaws, review and drafting of contracts, consulting on potential litigation and other general legal services. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Ann Arbor Symphony, ann Arbor YMCA, Ann Arbor Hands On Museum and Development Committee for Food Gatherers of Ann Arbor. His wife Cheryl is President and CEO of Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.

As a college athlete, Elliott was a three-year letter winner in football at the Univ. of Michigan where he earned Honorabble Mention All Big Ten honors in 1970 and 1971 and was an Academic All-American in 1971. He appeared in two Rose Bowl games and earned the 1971 Big Ten Medal of Honor for the Univ. of Michigan.

The father of two daughters who play field hockey at the NCAA Division I level, Elliott earned a B.A. degree from the Univ. of Michigan in 1972 and earned a J.D. degree from the Univ. of Miami (Fla.) Law School in 1975.

 

Tracey Larson
Assistant Field Hockey Coach
Columbia Univ.
New York, N.Y.

Selected to the USA Field Hockey National team in 1999,
Tracey Larson competed in 80 international contests for the
 United States including the 2002 World Cup, 2003 Pan American
Games and two Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (2000, 2004).

Named to the Columbia Univ. staff in July 2004, Larson was
reunited with former USA teammate Katie Beach who now
serves as head coach at Columbia. She has served as a camp
counselor at various field hockey summer programs since 1996,
and recently owned and directed The Edge Clinics in Virginia Beach,
Va. as a member of the USA team.

A former captain of the Penn State field hockey team, Larson
was a first team All-America selection as a senior when she also
earned the Big Ten’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player
of the Year honors. Larson was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten,
a two-time first team All-Big Ten selection and a two-time first
team All-Region selection. She led the Nittany Lions to consecutive
conference championships in 1997 and 1998, while leading the team
to the Big Ten Tournament title in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Larson graduated from Penn State in 1999 with a degree in Education.

Karen A. Robinson
Director, Human Rights Education Program
Amnesty International, USA

Brooklyn, N.Y.

With more than 20 years in the areas of volunteer and membership program development, human rights education and youth development, Karen Robinson has served Amnesty International's worldwide movement for internationally recognized human rights since 1994.

As Director of Amnesty International's Human Rights Education Program, Robinson creates and implements programming to integrate community service into the academic, residential and social life of students. Prior to joining Amnesty International, Robinson worked in the Office of Student Affairs at American University as coordinator of the Center for Volunteerism and Community Service and supervisor in the Office for Disabled Student Services.

In addition to her work in human rights education and training, Robinson continues to be a strong proponent of the sport of field hockey in the United States. A member of the U.S. National Squad from 1988-91, Robinson also coached in USA Field Hockey's Futures Program and served in a leadership capacity in the Northeast Field Hockey Assoc. She also serves as captain for her Greenwich Women's club team.

She is a 1985 graduate of American Univ. with a B.A. degree in Law and Society.

 

The father of a USA Field Hockey Futures Program graduate, Ivy League student-athlete and current Elite Performance Training Center member, Strout own a B.A. and Master's degree from the University of Miami (Fla.) and is a graduate of the Univ. Michigan Graduate School Executive Management Program. He is a member of the Family Advisory Board of St. Louis Children's Hospital.


Nominating and Governance Committee Term Committment

The initial Nominating and Governance Committee shall be appointed by the current Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and shall serve until the end of December 2006.  At that time, the process of staggered terms shall cause two members to conclude their terms on December 31, 2006, and the remaining members to serve until December 31, 2008.  No member of the Nominating and Governance Committee may serve for more than two consecutive terms.
