Germany Four Nations

Germany, Korea, India, United States

4 July 2008
17.00 Korea v USA

FINAL: Korea 5 : USA 3 (2:1)

Notes from TERRY WALSH, USA Field Hockey Techincal Director: "Overall a good game and a quality performance from the USA. Managed to open up the Korean defense very effectively but our finishing touch was not there. Korea worked extremely hard and the USA held the physiological battle to at least even terms - very pleasing at this stage of what is a very vigorous training period."

U.S. Goals: Keli Smith, Tiffany Snow, and Kayla Bashore

6 July 2008
10.30 Korea 9 : India 2
12.30 Germany 7: USA 2 (4:0)

USA Goals: Carrie Lingo, Tiffany Snow

Notes from TERRY WALSH: "The Germans started very quickly and converted their first two penalty corners.

"Germany continued to be first to the ball for the rest of the half and were rewarded with two further goals prior to halftime. Some very good goalkeeping from Amy Tran ... the Germans handled the ball with confidence and admirable control. Two clever field goals followed... 4-0 at halftime.

"The start of the second half brought about an immediate change with the USA creating significant pressure. A goal was brought back through Carrie Lingo with a hard shot from high on the left side of the circle. A missed chance to USA off the German goal keeper’s helmet onto the cross bar punctuated the change in momentum. Two more good USA chances went begging before the Germans countered and scored 2 goals in consecutive minutes. The USA persisted and were rewarded with a second goal, a deflection from Angie Loy’s strike from the left side of the circle.

"With the USA taking every chance to push forward and score, Germany countered and created a fine rebound goal to complete a game result of 2-7."

    The final standings:
  1. Germany
  2. Korea
  3. USA
  4. India
