Instruction for Paper Trials
1. Notify all athletes within your high school, junior high school, and local club system there will be trials for Futures. Pick a date, location, and time. (You may adjust the included informational flyer to your needs)
2. Prior to testing athletes emphasize the ‘mission statement’ of the Futures program and encourage only athletes who fit the purpose of the program to try out. Athletes should represent the top athletes in your program in each age group.
3.Prior to the trial date each Futures candidate should complete the online application. The trial application fee is $25.00. Upon registration the athlete will receive an electronic confirmation notification. Prior to testing please collect the athlete’s confirmation notice as confirmation the athlete has registered. NO ATHLETE may test without a confirmation they registered. The following process is used to Register on the Web Site:
Go to: www.usafieldhockey.com
- click on the RED “membership login” (it is located under the hockey stick).
on the left hand side in blue you will see “Events” click on FUTURES PAPER TRIALS.
scroll down to the bottom and click on the “pencil” in the Region 8 box
- then click on “Register now”
- then click on “Continue”
- please fill out all information: make sure your address, e-mail and birth date are correct (skip the site preference section)
- then click on “next” make your registration payment and click “register”
*** PLEASE make sure you print your registration and take it to the coach
who is preparing the trial, you will not be able to participate with out it.
4. Athletes are permitted to try each test a maximum of two times. We ask that the coach records, in ink, the best score for each test. The testing coach must sign the bottom of each TEST RESULT form indicating the validity of the scores.
5. At the completion of all testing, coaches are asked to ‘RANK ORDER’ their best six players, regardless of scores, in the age categories of Under 19, 16, and 14 age division. The age divisions are based on the athletes’ age on January 1st. For example, if an athlete is 15 years old on January 1st, the athlete is in the U16 category. Coaches should rank their athletes in the box provided with a #1, #2 or #3 for each category. Please be advised that ranked athletes will be given highest consideration for invitation into the program. However, a ranked athlete is not guaranteed placement in the Futures Program. In addition, all rankings will be kept CONFIDENTAL between the coach and the RCD.
6. The test explanations are attached. Recommended surfaces for the tests include turf, tennis courts, macadam, and gymnasium floors.
7. Return the Trial Result Form (may be electronic) to your Regional Coaching Director (see below). Only athletes properly registered will be considered. Proof of registration is the USA Field Hockey registration notification print out.
8. Trial Results must be received by the deadline to be guaranteed review.

Please have all parents direct any question to you as the Trial Coach first then to the RAD and RCD.
Please let you parents know all past athletes are placed first then we will attempt to get the other girls to a Site as close to their home town as possible depending on the number of Athletes already at the Site. We appreciate everyone helping with the “new” process this year !
