Hiring Range: Grade 820 

Basic Function: The Head Coach is responsible for providing leadership and direction for all aspects of the field hockey program as they compete competitively in NCAA Division III athletics and the NEWMAC (New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference).  Teach activity courses in physical education and other administrative duties as assigned. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities  

- Provide leadership and direction to the field hockey program; conduct the program in compliance with the NCAA. 

- Supervise assistant coach(es). 

- Recruit prospective student-athletes committed to academic and athletic excellence. 

- Establish and maintain a positive public relations image for the sport, the department, and WPI. 

- Be accountable for field hockey budget. 

- Teach PE courses as assigned. 

- Serve as a role model for players both on and off the court. 

- Develop a good rapport and/or working relationship with students, department members, faculty and alumni. 

- Perform other administrative duties as assigned. 

Requirements  

- Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred. 

- 3-5 years of secondary/collegiate coaching experience. 

- Demonstrated ability in athletic administration, leadership, recruitment. 

- Valid driver’s license required.

Head Field Hockey Coach

Houghton College, a Christian College of the liberal arts and sciences located in rural Western New York, seeks applicants for the part-time position of Head Field Hockey Coach. The successful applicant will possess a strong, working knowledge of the game. Playing experience at the collegiate level and/or successful coaching experience at the high school or college level is strongly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s degree is preferred. Strong “people skills” and a commitment to sports ministry are required. Review of applications will begin on March 17, 2008. The position will be filled upon identification of a suitable candidate. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
