Grassroots Development Programs
As part of
its mission, USA Field Hockey seeks to develop the sport while strengthening the idea of
field hockey as a lifetime activity. USA Field Hockey works towards this goal by
partnering with community-based sports organizations such as the local Parks and
Recreation Department, YMCA, YWCA and Boys and Girls Clubs, to increase public
awareness of the game, provide program continuity and pool administrative, coaching and
umpiring resources in order to better support players at the local level. Regional and
Youth Coordinators work to introduce the sport in communities where field hockey is
not an established activity while providing support in tradition-rich field hockey
communities.
Club Hockey
The
backbone of adult hockey in the United States, USA
Field Hockey's club hockey program provides adult players the opportunity to compete for
regional and national championships as a members of locally-based club teams.
The Club Championship is held annually in the
spring to crown the nation's top men's and women's club teams.
Partner Camps
In order
to promote quality camps to the membership, The United States Field
Hockey Association offers a sanctioned camp program to private camps in the United States.
Private camps have contact with approximately 50,000 field hockey
players annually through the camp system, and USA Field Hockey seeks to encourage and development young athletes
through various programs.
Sanctioning camps have met camp criteria which establishes
curriculums and staffing standards. Camp curriculums are on file
with USA Field Hockey.
Events
The
National Hockey Festival
(November)
and
National Indoor Tournament
(age group and open tournaments in March/April)
are among the many events sponsored by USA Field Hockey to continually provide participation and development
opportunities for players, coaches, officials and administrators.
Traditionally
held over the Thanksgiving weekend, the National Hockey Festival
attracts over 3,000 of the nation's top field hockey athletes competing for championships
in men's, women's, sectional, master's and mixed divisions.
USA
Field Hockey's
High School Open Camp camp is
held each summer as part of USA Field Hockey''s commitment to the development of the game.
The camp allows individual players to improve skills,
tactics and strategies as practiced by the USA National Teams. The Open
Camp provides selection opportunities to additional USA Field Hockey
programs including the Futures Program and High Performance Open Trials for college
athletes.
