Canada Results

Women's U20 Team to Tour Canada

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The U.S, Under-20 field hockey team concludes its busy year of international play this month with a five-game series against Canada, July 20-28, in Brandon, Manitoba.

The team began the year with a tour of Argentina in March before hosting a Four Nation Tournament with England, India and Chile at Union, N.J. in June. Following the Canada tour, the players will return home for their respective high school and collegiate seasons before participating in U.S. Field Hockey's A-Camp in late December and early January. The 2000 National Team and junior teams are selected at A-Camp.

The 16-member team features some of the top collegiate and high school players including high school all-America selections , April Fronzoni (Larksville, Pa., Wyoming Valley West), Kristin Gannon (Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual), Meredith Keller (Greenville, Del., Tower Hill) and  Jessica Rose (Litiz, Pa., Warwick). Fronzoni led the Four Nation Tournament in scoring with five goals including four goals against Chile.

The team also includes collegiate All-America selections Keli Smith of the University of Maryland and Courtney Sommer (Tulsa, Okla.) of Duke University along with standouts Amy Tran (Grantville, Pa.) and Abbey Woolley (Ocean City, N.J.) of the University of North Carolina, Lindsay Gorewitz, Molly Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.) and Autumn Welsh (Macungie, Pa.) of the University of Maryland and Melanie Meerschwam (Amstelveen, Netherlands) of NCAA runner-up Princeton University. Goalkeeper Amanda Latz (Palmyra, Pa.) of James Madison Univ. and Boston University’s Robyn Kenney (Readington, N.J.) will also represent the U.S. on the tour along with Virginia’s Jessica Coleman (Oceanport, N.J.). Penn State’s Maegan Galie (Collegeville, Pa.) ranked second in the Big 10 in scoring (48 pts).

Coached by Temple University head coach Lauren Fuchs, the U.S. Under 20 team placed third at the Four Nation Tournament behind tourney champion India and runner-up England.
