United States Field Hockey Association Latest News US Field Hockey to Conduct Pan Am Trials COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The U.S. Field Hockey Association will select its 1999 Pan American Games womens team during selection trials, May 11-18 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Head coach Tracey Belbin and a team of USFHA selectors will the choose the 16-members of the Pan American Games team and 3-5 alternates from a squad of 29 current National and Senior Reserve Team members. The final selections to the U.S. team will be announced May 20. The team will compete in the Pan American Games Tournament, July 25-Aug. 4, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Among those looking to secure a spot on the team, veteran Tracey Fuchs (Ann Arbor, Mich.) will be seeking her fourth trip to the Pan American Games. Fuchs, the most capped U.S. player with 165 career international appearances, has appeared in all three previous Pan American Games womens field hockey tournaments earning two silver medals and one bronze medal. The Pan American Games began featuring womens field hockey on the official Games programme in 1987. A two-time Olympian, Fuchs will be joined by 1996 Olympic and 1995 Pan Am teammates Kris Fillat (San Diego, Calif.), Kelli James (Medford, N.J.), Katie Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.), Antoinette Lucas (Richmond, Va.), Jill Reeve (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) and Cindy Werley (Allentown, Pa.) in seeking spots on the 1999 team. In addition to the U.S., the Pan American Games tournament field includes teams from Canada, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and defending gold medalist Argentina. The U.S. won the silver medal at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. U.S. mens coach Shiv Jagday will select his team for the Pan American Games Tournament during trials June 19-20 in Chula Vista. |
