1999 Men's Under 16 Team Named
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ten athletes have earned repeat selections to U.S. Field Hockeys Mens Under-16 National squad following selection trials at Moorpark College in Moorpark, Calif. Ten of the squads 21 players return from last years inaugural U.S. Under-16 Team including Austin Hargett (Ventura, Calif.), Patrick Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), Sean Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), Eric Hodgdon (Somers Point, N.J.), Nick Hornbeck (Camarillo, Calif.) Jim McDonough (Ventura, Calif.), William Molenaar (Ventura, Calif.), Byron Roach (Ventura Calif.), Todd Robinson (Ventura, Calif.) and Jeb Saez (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). Patrick Harris will serve double duty with the U.S. teams after earning an earlier appointment to the U.S. Under 20 team. Harris brother, 12-year-old Sean, is the youngest member of the team. The Under-16 team represents the first step in an athletes elite-team development process and serves to introduce young players to international competition while preparing athletes for future National Team consideration. Directed by U.S. Mens National Coach Shiv Jagday and coached by University of California-Berkeley head coach Shellie Onstead, the team will tour the Netherlands in the Spring with a series of games in Amsterdam from March 30 - April 6. In addition to the Under-16 squad, U.S. Field Hockey sponsors the Mens Under-20 team and the Mens U.S. National Team along with its womens programs. Selected in late December last year, the National Team and head coach Shiv Jagday will represent the U.S. at the Pan American Games, July 24-Aug. 8 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The United States Field Hockey Association is the national governing body for womens and mens field hockey in the United States and is responsible for the training and preparation of teams to participate in international competitions such as the Olympic Games and Pan American Games as well as for the promotion and development of the sport throughout the United States. ### |
