U.S. Men’s National Team Continue Pan Am Preps With Scotland, Canada

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. men’s national field hockey team will undergo its final preparations for this summer’s Pan American Games when the team hosts Scotland at the Chula Vista (Calif.) Olympic Training Center before heading to Vancouver, B.C. for a four-game series with Canada.

The U.S. will meet Scotland at 4 p.m. on June 24, 26, 27 and 29 at Chula Vista with the June 26 match expected to feature the U.S. Under-20 team. The team will then fly to Vancouver where the USA will take on Canada A at 5:30, July 1. The U.S. will then meet Canada B at 5:30, July 2, before facing Canada A at 5:30, July 3, and concluding the series at 5:30, July 4 against Canada B. All matches are scheduled for Vancouver’s Livingstone Park.

The practice matches represent the final competitions for coach Shiv Jagday and the U.S. team prior to the Pan American Games, July 24-Aug. 4 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The winner of the Pan American Games Tournament earns an automatic berth in the 2000 Olympic Games. The U.S., defending champion Argentina, Central America/Caribbean champion Cuba and host Canada are expected to contend for the Pan American Games top honors. The U.S. men have earned the bronze medal in each of the past three Pan Am tournaments.
