Women's Open Tryouts Set For Festival COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. In its continuing selection process for the 2000 Womens National Team, U.S. Field Hockey will conduct open tryouts for athletes seeking selection to A-Camp during the 1999 Hockey Festival, Nov. 25-28, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Open to college-aged athletes and older, tryouts at the Festival represent the final opportunity of the year for athletes to be selected to A-Camp. High school players are not eligible for selection at the Hockey Festival.The U.S. Womens National Team, Womens Under-21 Team and Under-19 Teams will be selected at A-Camp. Athletes wishing to stand for selection at the Festival should fax a letter to the U.S. Field Hockey national office indicating the following information: 1) the name of their Festival team; 2) the festival division in which the team will compete; 3) game jersey number; 4) position (field player or goalkeeper); 5) name, address, phone number, age and date of birth. Information should be faxed to Beth Vasta at U.S. Field Hockey at 719-632-0979 by Nov. 15, 1999. Any athletes selected to attend A-Camp from tryouts at the Hockey Festival will be notified by Dec. 5, 1999. U.S. Field Hockey will conduct its A-Camp for athletes 20 years old and younger (as of Dec. 31, 1999) from Dec. 27-31, 1999 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. A-Camp for athletes 20 years old and older (as of Dec. 31, 1999) is scheduled for Jan 8-12, 2000 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista Calif. Top female candidates from the Dec. 27-31 A-Camp may be asked to attend the second week of A-Camp, Jan 8-12 in Chula Vista. Athletes selected from the first week of A-Camp to the second week of A-Camp will be responsible for their own airfare to San Diego, but will not be required to pay any additional A-Camp fees. Athletes standing for selection at the Hockey Festival will receive no further correspondence from U.S. Field Hockey prior to the Hockey Festival. The subjective evaluation of match play will be the sole tool used by the selectors. Ahtletes will not receive any type of written of verbal evaluation of their Hockey Festival play from the USFHA selectors
