Hockey Festival Crowns Champions WELLINGTON, FLA Teams with
longstanding field hockey traditions earned the final honors at the 1999 US Field Hockey
National Hockey Festival at the Palm Beach Polo Club. Holland Tunnel, a team consisting of veteran
US Olympians and collegiate coaches, earned its seventh Festival Open Division title in 10
years while Philadelphia earned its 10th Sections championship since 1974. In
the Festivals other final games, East West Sports Camp won the mixed (co-ed)
division while BET Masters of Barbados wont he Veterans Division. US Olympians Beth Beglin (80, 84,
88) and Christy Morgan (88) scored goals to lead Holland Tunnel to a 2-1
victory over Team ZA in the Open Division Championship, while Philadelphia went undefeated
at 7-0-1 to claim the Sectional crown. Beglin is now the head coach at the University of
Iowa while Morgan is the head coach at James Madison University. The Festival awarded medals to the three Under-16 pool winners and 14 Under-19 pool champions on Saturday, Nov. 27. During the four days of the
tournament, the Polo Club hosted more than 3500 athletes and officials in 650 games on 30
fields. The event marks the third time West Palm Beach has hosted the Festival. The Polo
Club and Palm Beach County Sports Commission hosted the event in 1996 and 1998. The worlds largest amateur
field hockey event, the 1999 Festival featured 178 teams from 25 states as well as
international players from Australia, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Ireland and Venezuela. Additional information on the
