US Field Hockey, Sport EuroTour To Present Player of the Week Awards

Sport EuroTour, an industry leader in providing unique international playing and training opportunities for young athletes, has joined U.S. Field Hockey in presenting the Sports Eurotour/USFHA Player of the Week Award

"Every one at Sport EuroTour is very excited about participating with the USFHA in creating a showcase for dedicated high school athletes," said Sport EuroTour President Bob Whitcher. "This program is a unique opportunity for field hockey athletes to be recognized for their talent and their love of the game ."

Presented each week during the 1999 hockey season, the Player of the Week Award will be given to players high school age and younger based on athletic, academic and civic achievements. Nominations are open to all field hockey players high school age and younger.

"The US field hockey athlete is unique when compared to their European peers," added Whitcher, who annually leads teams on international tours to places such as England, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain . "We want to learn, we’re easy to train, we work hard and we’re extremely good sports. The US athlete has no idea how special they really are.

"Hopefully, through the nomination process for the USFHA/Sport EuroTour ‘Player of the Week’ our US athletes will recognize for themselves their very own, distinct talents."

Beginning Monday, August 23, coaches, players, parents, umpires and fans may nominate deserving athletes on-line at the U.S. Field Hockey website at www.usfieldhockey.com. Complete nominations will also be accepted by mail or fax to U.S. Field Hockey at One Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO, 80909, fax 719-632-0979. Nominations must be received by 9 a.m. eastern time each Monday to be eligible for the weekly voting.
