NOTTINGHAM, England – Three U.S. Masters Teams competed for hardware on the final day of the 2024 World Masters Hockey Indoor World Cup (MIWC) at the David Ross Sports Village in Nottingham, England.

The U.S. O-55 Women’s Masters Team finished with a stellar 5-1-1 record, clinching a silver medal after falling to Germany in the final. The U.S. O-35 Men won bronze after a dramatic match that was decided in shootouts, while the U.S. O-45 Women shutout Italy 5-0 to take home bronze.

O-55 Women: USA 0 – 4 GER

With an undefeated record in pool play and crossovers, the U.S. O-55 Women’s Masters Team competed in the MIWC gold medal match for the first time. Their opponent was Germany, and it was to be a rematch of their tied outcome in pool play. The USA defense worked hard to limit a powerful Germany offense, but Germany was able to score a goal in both the first and second quarters to take a 2-0 lead after the half. The third frame was devoid of goals, as both teams fended each other off. Germany was able to seal the win with a pair of goals in the 35th and 37th minute, as they defeated USA 4-0. The U.S. O-55 Women took home the silver medal after a successful tournament.

O-35 Men: USA 3 (2) – 2 (0) WAL

After losing to Wales 9-8 in pool play, the U.S. O-35 Men’s Masters Team rallied in the bronze medal match to claim victory in shootouts. Wales got on the board immediately to start the match, forcing USA to respond swiftly with a goal by Matt Py (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in the 6th minute. In the final seconds of the first quarter, Py tallied another to give USA a 2-1 lead. The back-and-forth match continued in the second frame, seeing Wales notch the equalizer at minute 18. It would not be until late in the third quarter that another goal was scored, as Wales took a 3-2 lead. David de Perez (Prosper, Texas) stepped up for the crucial game-tying goal in the fourth.

A crowd gathered as shootouts began to see who would claim the bronze. Py made the first shootout for USA, while Wales missed their first attempt. A nifty spin move from Jesse Larson (Crownsville, Md.) secured the victory for USA, as Wales missed on their second chance.

O-45 Women: ITA – USA

After both finished 2-1 in pool play, USA and Italy met in the O-45 Women’s bronze match of the MIWC. The U.S. O-45 Women put on a dominant display of offense to take third with a 5-0 victory. The red, white and blue got the scoring started early with a goal from Patti Web (Monkton, Md.) in the 6th minute. It was Meredith Kirkpatrick (Somers, Conn.) who tallied next, putting USA up 2-0 as the game headed into halftime. Margaret Kelly (Madison, Mass.) made it 3-0, USA, in the third quarter, then notched another to make it 4-0 in the 38th minute. Kimberly Susko (Dresher, Pa.) added on one more in the final minute, as USA claimed bronze with a 5-0 shutout over Italy.

After finishing third in their pool, the U.S. O-60 Women's Masters Team advanced to the crossver round with Germany and Wales, where they finished third overall.
