Pennsylvania/New Jersey tops the standings following Day 2 action at USA Field Hockey's Women's National Championships

Virginia Beach, Va. – The Pennsylvania/ New Jersey High Performance Center remained the tournament's lone unbeaten, untied team to top the standings following the second day of action at USA Field Hockey's Women's National Championship.

Conducted under the format of an international tournament and featuring six elite-level teams of current U.S. national team members and top college players, the Championship continues through Sunday at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

After an opening day 10-2 victory over New England, PA/NJ secured its spot at the top of the standings with a 4-1 victory over the South HPC on day two. PA/NJ is powered by two of the team's youngest stars in 18-year-old Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) and 17-year-old Kati Reinprecht (North Wales, Pa.), who share the tournament scoring lead with California HPC's Ashley Glosz (Berkeley, Calif.) with three goals each.

Glosz and her California HPC team currently sit in second place in the standings and remain undefeated at 1-0-1 following a 4-4 draw with New England. California battled back from a 4-1 second half deficit with three goals in a nine-minute span including two by Glosz and the game-tying goal by USA National Team captain Kate Barber.

The Midwest HPC (1-0-1) also remained undefeated with a 2-1 win over defending champion Maryland HPC.

Last year's runner-up, the South HPC is off to a 0-1-1 start while New England is also at 0-1-1. Defending champion Maryland HPC is still looking for its first points of the tournament at 0-2-0.

Following a day off on Tuesday, the teams resume play on Wednesday with Midwest taking on California, Maryland meeting PA/NJ and New England facing the South. The tournament concludes Sunday with the championship and classification games.

In addition to the national title, athletes are also competing for spots on the 2007-08 U.S. national team. U.S. Head coach Lee Bodimeade and Technical Director Terry Walsh will announce the selections to the 2007-08 team at the conclusion of the tournament.

USA Field Hockey’s nominations to the U.S. Pan American Games team will also be publicly announced following the tournament. All Pan Am Games team nominations are subject to approval by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
