Colorado Springs, Colo. – USA Field Hockey's 2006 National Hockey
Festival and 2007 Disney's Field Hockey Showcase are among the events nominated for SportsTravel
magazine's 2007 awards.
The 2006 National Hockey Festival in Indio, Calif. is among
the nominees for Best Single-Sport Amateur event while the 2007 Disney's
Field Hockey Showcase is nominated for Best New Event.
Offering awards in 11 categories, SportTravel will
announce the winners of the 2006 SportsTravel awards during the TEAMS 2007
Conference and Expo, Oct. 23-27, 2007 in Louisville, Ky.
The National Hockey Festival is joined in the Best Amateur
Single-Sport Event by the 2006 29th NBL Grand National of BMX Racing
(Louisville, Ky.), 2006-07 Disney's Soccer Showcase (Lake Buena Vista,
Fla.), 2007 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 2007
State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships (Spokane, Wash.) and 2007
United States Bowling Congress Open Championships (Reno, Nev.). The
nomination marks the second time the National Hockey Festival has been in
the running for the SportsTravel Award after earning a nomination for the
2005 Festival Palm Beach Co., Fla.
The world's largest amateur field hockey event, the National
Hockey Festival annually draws more than 3,500 participants for a four day
celebration of the spor. Teams compete for titles in Under-16 and Under-19
age groups as well as women's open and mixed divisions.
Events joining Disney's Field Hockey Showcase as nominees for
Best New Event include the 2006 Old Spice Classic (Lake Buena Vista, Fla.),
2006 Special Olympics USA National Games (Ames, Iowa), 2007 Eugene Marathon
(Eugene, Ore.), 2007 Tostitos BCS National Championship (Florida vs. Ohio
State((Glendale, Ariz.) and the 2007 USA Hockey 60 & Over National
Championships (Brandon, Fla.).
The inaugural Disney's Field Hockey Showcase drew 56 teams in
three age-group categories to Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake
Buena Vista, Fla. The 2008 Disney event is scheduled for February 8-10.
Events were nominated based on superior organization of and
attendance at the event, a superior experience for the competitors and/or
spectators at the event and how the site or venue served to enhance the
event.
Voting for the award is open through Sept. 15, 2007 on the
