USA Field Hockey National Team Players Represented on Pan American Elite Team

Carrie Lingo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five USA Field Hockey nation team members  earned selection to the Pan American Hockey Federation's (PAHF) Pan American Elite Team following play at the XV Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The USA's Kelly Doton (Greenfield, Mass.), Carrie Lingo (Rehoboth Beach, Del.), Tiffany Snow (Escondido, Calif.) and goalkeeper Amy Tran (Grantville, Pa.) were named to the women's Pan American Elite Team while Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.) was named to the 16-member men's team.

The USA women placed second at the Pan Am Games behind champion Argentina while the USA men placed seventh at the Games.

Selected by a panel of hockey specialists at the Pan American Games, the 2007 Pan American Elite Team represents the first of the planned PAHF biennial honor teams to be selected every two years following the Pan American Games and Pan American Cup tournaments.

Lingo, Doton and Snow all ranked among the tournament's leading goal scorers with Lingo collecting five goals and Doton and Snow adding four goals each.

Appearing in her second Pan Am Games, Lingo collected a hat trick in the USA's opening game win over eventual bronze medalist Netherlands Antilles and added additional goals in a first round win over Canada and a semifinal win over Chile.

Kelly Doton

A key to the USA defense, Doton also added four goals as part of the USA's lethal penalty corner battery that accounted for 14 of the team's 23 tournament goals. She scored tow goals in the USA's first round victory over Cuba.

Snow also collected four goals including a crucial second half goal to bring the USA back from a 1-0 halftime deficit in its semifinal round game against Chile. The USA went on to win the match 4-0. Snow also added a goal in the championship game against Argentina as well as a pair of goals against Canada and Cuba.

Tran adds the Pan Am honor to a list of awards that include Goalkeeper of the Tournament honors at the 2005 Champions Challenge, 2006 AstroTurf March on Madrid, 2006 World Cup Qualifying Tournament, 2006 World Cup and 2007 Champions Challenge. Tran was also the only goalkeeper selected to the inaugural 2006 WorldHockey All-Star team. At the Pan Am Games, Tran collected a pair of shutouts in victories over Cuba (7-0) and Canada (6-0) in helping the USA to a 4-1 record and the silver medal.

Amy Tran

In addition to the four U.S. players, gold medalist Argentina placed five members on the Elite Team including three-time WorldHockey Player of the Year Luciana Aymar. Magdalena Aicega, Alejandra Gulla, Mercedes Margalot and Marine Russo were also named to the team from Argentina. Bronze medalist Netherlands Antilles placed three players on the team with Anika de Haas, Ernestine Schreuder and goalkeeper Marlieke van de Pas. Cuba's Yakelin Drake Torres, Canada's Tiffany Michaluk and Chile's Paula Infante and Daniela Infante rounded out the women's Elite Team.

On the men's side, Harris ranked as the tournament's second leading scorer with eight goals in five games. His 2007 performance increases his career Pan Am goal total to 17 goals in two Pan Am Games appearances. The Elite Team selection is the second PAHF honor for Harris who was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2005 Junior Pan American Championships.

Harris was one of only two players from teams outside the semifinalists to earn a spot on the Elite Team.

Pat Harris
