USA Field Hockey Men Place Fourth at China Tournament

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The USA Field Hockey men's national team placed fourth at the China Four Nation Tournament following a 5-1 loss to Egypt in the tournament's 3rd/4th place game in Lanzhou City.

Host China won the tournament title with a 2-1 win over Japan in the championship game.

The USA's Jed Cunningham (Moorpark, Calif.) scored the team's only goal in the finale against Egypt and was named the USA's Man of the Match for his efforts. Cunningham was also named "Player of the Series" by head coach Nick Conway for his performance at the tournament.

Currently ranked at No. 27 in the world, the USA went 0-4 at the tournament against a field that included No. 12 ranked Japan, 2004 Olympic Qualifier and No. 15 Egypt and 2008 Olympic host and No. 18-ranked China.

Next up for the USA, the team will compete in the Pan American Games, July 15-29 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The winner of the Pan Am Games earns the continent's automatic berth in the 2008 Olympic Games.
