USA Field Hockey Men Down Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 in First Game of Series

USA Field Hockey's Pat Harris scored two goals to help lift the USA to a 3-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago.

Chula Vista, Calif. - Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.) scored two goals and Sean Harris (Moorpark, Calif.) added another as the USA Field Hockey Men's National Team defeated Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 in Game 1 of their five-game series at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

The matches serve as a warm-up for the two teams before the USA and Trinidad & Tobago travel to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Feb. 2-10 in Auckland, New Zealand. The two teams will be joined by Argentina, France, Ireland and host New Zealand at the qualifier with the winner of the tournament earning a spot in the 2008 Olympic Games.

Pat Harris opened the scoring in the first half with a penalty corner goal to give the USA a 1-0 halftime lead. Harris added a second penalty corner in the second half and brother Sean knocked in a back-stick shot to give the USA a 3-0 lead.

U.S. goalkeeper Jason Wellings was named the Man of the Match after holding Trinidad & Tobago scoreless until the final minutes of the game.

The win gives the USA its fifth consecutive win over its Pan Am rival after sweeping Trinidad & Tobago in a four-game series in April in Port of Spain.

The series continues with Game 2 scheduled for noon Dec. 17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Series.
