USA Field Hockey Junior Men  to Compete in Canada Series

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Athletes in USA Field Hockey's junior men's program will get face a big international test this week when they travel to Vancouver, Nov. 9-11 for games against the British Columbia U16 team and Canadian U20 squad.

Members of the U.S. junior developmental squad and men's Junior National Squad will compete in the series which will feature three matches against the B.C. U16 team and three matches with the U20 Canadian team.

U.S. Men's National Coach Nick Conway will use the series to help evaluate players for next year's Men's Junior Pan American Championships. The Pan Am event is scheduled for Oct. 17-26, 2008 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and serves as the continental qualifying event for the 2009 Junior World Cup.

"The series is a great opportunity for our junior players and the folks in British Columbia have been very accommodating," said Conway. "We want to expose a number of our U20 players to international competition and at the same time, continue the development of our younger U16 players who will play a large role in the next U21 international cycle."

The series will allow Conway some flexibility in assigning players to compete in the various matches without confinement to any age group restrictions.

"I don't imagine any two teams will be the same from day to day," said Conway on his plans to shuffle the lineup in evaluating his players. "We'll be making changes based on performance and the ability of players to compete for positions on next year's Junior Pan American Team."
