Council President David Simon Elected to USA Field Hockey Board of Directors
COLORADO
SPRINGS, Colo. – Los Angeles Sports Council President David Simon has been
elected to the USA Field Hockey’s Board of Directors following elections in
early August.
Elected to a
four-year term by the Board, Simon has led the Sports Council to successful
bids on events such as the Super Bowl, the Breeders’ Cup and the finals of
soccer’s World Cup and Women’s World Cup in generating more than $1 billion
in economic impact for the Los Angeles area.
The founding
President of the Sports Council in 1988, Simon previously served as Vice
President of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee where he was
involved in the bidding process and staging of the 1984 Olympic Games.
His civic involvement
includes serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors for Southern
California Special Olympics. From 1989 to 1999, he served as Chair or
Co-Chair of the International Relations Committee for the United States
Olympic Committee. He also serves on the board of the Los Angeles Area
Chamber of Commerce, and is President of the Southern California Committee
for the Olympic Games.
A native of Los Angeles,
Simon is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCLA and the UCLA School of Law. He
is a member of the bar both in California and in Washington, D.C.
USA Field
Hockey is the National Governing Body for the sport of field hockey in the
United States and is responsible for the promotion and development of the
sport throughout the country. USA Field Hockey trains and prepares teams to
participate in international competitions such as the Olympic Games, Pan
American Games and International Hockey Federation World Cup.
