COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  – Los Angeles Sports Council President David Simon has been elected to the USA Field Hockey’s Board of Directors following elections in early August.

Elected to a four-year term by the Board, Simon has led the Sports Council to successful bids on events such as the Super Bowl, the Breeders’ Cup and the finals of soccer’s World Cup and Women’s World Cup in generating more than $1 billion in economic impact for the Los Angeles area.

The founding President of the Sports Council in 1988, Simon previously served as Vice President of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee where he was involved in the bidding process and staging of the 1984 Olympic Games.

His civic involvement includes serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors for Southern California Special Olympics.  From 1989 to 1999, he served as Chair or Co-Chair of the International Relations Committee for the United States Olympic Committee.  He also serves on the board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and is President of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games.

A native of Los Angeles, Simon is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCLA and the UCLA School of Law.  He is a member of the bar both in California and in Washington, D.C.
