USA Field Hockey to host FIH Congress in Los Angeles in 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey will welcome leaders of the international field hockey community to Southern California next November when the USA hosts the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) 41st Congress, Nov. 23-30, 2008 in Los Angeles.

Held every two years, the FIH Congress represents the ultimate authority governing the conduct of field hockey’s International Federation.  At the Congress, delegates from the FIH’s 123- member national associations meet to conduct the business of the Federation including the election of officers and executive members, the presentation of committee reports and the consideration of updates to the Federation’s strategic plan. The event is expected to bring more than 300 delegates to the Los Angles area.

The Congress itself is scheduled for Nov. 29, 2008, and culminates a week of activities that include FIH Executive Board and committee meetings and the World Hockey Forum.

In addition to their meetings, delegates to the Congress will have the opportunity to visit various Los Angles area landmarks and icons as well as the USA Field Hockey’s National Hockey Festival at nearby Indio, Calif. The world’s largest field hockey event, the National Hockey Festival features more than 3,500 participants competing on 224 teams. The 2008 Festival is scheduled for Nov. 27-30, 2008  at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

With the Congress, USA Field Hockey will host its second influential international event in the next two years after previously being awarded the 2009 BDO Women's Junior World Cup. The Junior World Cup is scheduled for Aug. 4-16, 2009 in Boston, Mass.
