USA Field Hockey's Amy Tran Named to 2006 WorldHockey All-Star Team

Amy Tran earned selection to the WorldHockey All-Star Team following her Goalkeeper of the Tournament performance at the World Cup.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -  USA Field Hockey’s Amy Tran (Grantville, Pa.) continued to pile up international honors as the U.S. goalkeeper was named to the 2006 WorldHockey All-Star team.

With the award, Tran tops off a year that included Goalkeeper of the Tournament honors at the 2005 Champions Challenge in Virginia Beach, the World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Rome, the AstroTurf March on Madrid in College Park, Md. and Virginia Beach, Va. and the World Cup in Madrid.

“I think this is recognition for a fantastic 18 month performance on the international scene,” said U.S. coach Lee Bodimeade.  “Amy has not only put herself in the elite group of international goalkeepers, but she is leading that group. I am sure that being named world's best goalkeeper at the recent World Cup is still the highlight of her career."

At the World Cup, Tran recorded three shutouts at the tournament including a 1-0 win over 2004 Olympic gold medalist Germany. She also earned victories over Korea (1-0) and South Africa (3-1).

Selected by international journalists and fans voting at www.worldhockey.org, the All-Star team features athletes from 10 nations including Australia, Argentina, China, England, Germany, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Spain and the USA.
