Amy Tran was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the World Cup Qualifier in Rome

ROME - USA Field Hockey goalkeeper Amy Tran was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Voted the tournament's top keeper by a panel of team managers, Tran helped the USA to a fourth place finish at the qualifier and a spot in September's World Cup.

She helped preserve a 1-1 draw against Ireland to open the tournament and then anchored a USA defense that held on for one-goal victories over world No. 6 ranked New Zealand and host Italy.

England won the tournament title followed by Korea, Japan the USA and China.

The award was the second such honor for Tran who also received Goalkeeper of the Tournament honors at the Rabobank Champions Challenge last July in Virginia Beach.

The USA will join continental and ranking qualified teams Argentina, Australia, Germany, India, The Netherlands, South Africa and host Spain as well as qualifier teams England, Korea, Japan and China at the World Cup, Sept. 27-Oct. 7.
