Women Fall to Argentina in Four Nation Opener
Rosario,
Argentina – Maria Hernandez and Carla Revecchi scored goals
to lift host Argentina to a 2-0 win over the USA women's national field
hockey team on the first night of action at the Argentina Four Nation
Tournament.
Hernandez gave Argentina the lead late in the first half when she scored in
the 31st minute to give the hosts a 1-0 halftime lead. Revecchi added an
insurance goal midway through the second half to secure the first game win
for Argentina.
Olympic gold medalist Germany defeated Ireland 2-0 in the first game of the
evening. The USA will meet Ireland in the second night of play on Thursday.
Argentina is currently ranked No. 3 in the world standings while Germany
captured the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games. The USA and Ireland will
be paired in Pool B at the World Cup Qualifying Tournament next month in
Rome.
