USA Field Hockey Names Terri Sawyer High Performance Office Manager

Terri Sawyer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey has named Terri Sawyer as High Performance Office Manager for the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

In her new position, Sawyer will oversee the office logistics in Virginia Beach, work with the Training Center facility management staff in the scheduling of events, provide administrative support for the U.S. coaching staff and serve as the Training Center’s liaison with the USA Field Hockey National Office in Colorado Springs.

“I am excited about being involved with the USA Field Hockey High Performance Programs,” said Sawyer. “Being a former teacher and coach, it is exciting to be in an environment of the highest level of playing and coaching in our country. Field hockey has been a part of my life for so long, that I am glad I can continue to be involved.”

Prior to joining the USA Field Hockey staff, Sawyer served as a teacher in Virginia Beach for 30 years. She taught at Malibu Elementary for seven years before spending the last 23 years as a health and physical education teacher at Frank W. Cox High School. She coached the Cox girl’s varsity soccer team for 19 years where she earned two Virginia Coach of the Year Honors and served three years as the head field hockey coach at nearby Virginia Wesleyan College where she collected an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award.

Sawyer’s service to USA Field Hockey includes chairing the 2006 National Indoor Tournaments, acting as Results Chair for the National Hockey Festival and serving as Team Liaison Manager for the 2005 Rabobank Champions Challenge in Virginia Beach. She has also coached in USA Field Hockey’s Futures Olympic Development Program.

“We are very excited to have Terri join our staff in Virginia Beach,” said USA Field Hockey Executive Director Sheila Walker. “Her enthusiasm, love and dedication for our sport will make her a tremendous asset for our coaches and athletes at the Training Center.”

A graduate of Longwood University with a Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech, Sawyer captained the 1975 field hockey team at Longwood to a No. 6 national ranking. She has been involved with USA Field Hockey’s National Hockey Festival either as a competitor or administrator since 1976.
