USA Field Hockey National Hockey Festival Nominated For SportsTravel Award

The 2005 National Hockey Festival is among the nominees for SportTravel Magazines'

Colorado Springs, Colo. – USA Field Hockey's 2005 National Hockey Festival in West Palm Beach county, Fla. is among the amateur events nominated for SportsTravel magazine's Best Single-Sport Event.

Offering awards in 11 categories, SportTravel will announce the winners of the 2006 SportsTravel awards during the TEAMS 2006 Conference and Expo, Oct. 11-14, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nev.

The National Hockey Festival is joined in the Best Amateur Single-Sport Event by the 2005 AAU 16-U Girls Basketball National Championship (Lake Buena Vista, Fla.), the 2005 Pop Warner National Championships and Super Bowl (Lake Buena Vista, Fla.), The 2006 Race Across America, the 2006 U.s. Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships (Fox Cities, Wis.) and the 2006 Walt Disney World Marathon (Lake Buena Vista, Fla).

Events were nominated based on superior organization of and attendance at the event, a superior experience for the competitors and/or spectators at the event and how the site or venue served to enhance the event.

The world's largest amateur field hockey event, the National Hockey Festival annually draws more than 3,500 participants for a four day celebration of the spor. Teams compete for titles in Under-16 and Under-19 age groups as well as women's open and mixed divisions.

Originating as the National Sectional Championship in 1922, the Festival adopted its current multi-divisional format in 1981

The 2006 National Hockey Festival is scheduled for Nov. 23-26 in Indio, Calif.
