USA Field Hockey Adds Kristi Gannon to World Cup Team
 

Kristi Gannon has been added to the USA roster as the team makes its final preparations for the World Cup in Madrid.

MADRID (9/25/06)– USA Field Hockey and head coach Lee Bodimeade have added defender Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif.)to the U.S. World Cup roster following an injury to Lauren Crandall.

Gannon will join the team just a day before the USA opens play at the World Cup with competition scheduled for for Sept. 27 - Oct. 8 in Madrid.


A member of the U.S. National Team since 2003, Gannon will make her first World Cup appearance after previously competing for the USA at the 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, 2005 Champions Challenge and the 2006 World Cup Qualifying Tournament. She has scored two goals for the USA while appearing  in 45 international matches. Gannon's sister Kristi played as a member of the 2002 U.S. World Cup team.

Gannon was called into service after Crandall sustained an injury prior to joining the U.S. team in Madrid.


Gannon joins Kate Barber (West Chester, Pa.), Kayla Bashore (Shoemakersville, Pa.), Rachel Dawson (Berlin, N.J.), Sarah Dawson (Berlin, N.J.), Kelly Doton (Greenfield, Mass.), Katelyn Falgowski (Landerberg, Pa.), April Fronzoni (Larksville, Pa.), Melissa Leonetti (Erdenheim, Pa.) Carrie Lingo (Rehoboth Beach, Del.), Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.), Lauren Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.), Dina Rizzo (Walpole, Mass.), Sara Silvetti (Wapwallopen, Pa.), Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.), Tiffany Snow (Escondido, Calif.) and goalkeepers Amy Tran (Grantville, Pa.) and Barbara Weinberg (Louisville, Ky,) on the USA World Cup team.


The USA begins World Cup play Sept. 27 against defending champion and  No. 2-seed Argentina before meeting No. 3 seed Australia in the second game on Sept. 28. The USA earned its first victory over Argentina in 16 years with a 2-1 win during the AstroTurf March on Madrid in August and earned a 1-1 draw with Australia during the first round of the event.
