USA Field Hockey Women Fall to The Netherlands in World Cup Warm

NED – The USA Field Hockey Women's
National Team concluded its World Cup preparation series with a 2-0 loss to
The Netherlands in the second of two matches against the top-ranked Dutch.
The U.S. women now head to Spain for the World Cup, Sept.
27-Oct. 8 in Madrid.
Eefke Mulder opened the scoring late in the first half
when she connected on a field goal in the 29th minute to give the Dutch a
1-0 halftime lead. Naomi Van As added to the Dutch lead midway through the
second half with her first goal of the series to give the hosts the 2-0
victory.
The series gave U.S. coach Lee Bodimeade a final
opportunity to experiment with the his line-up as he made full use of the
USA bench in both contests.
The USA will meet world No. 2 Argentina in the team’s World Cup opener on Sept. 27 and
will play world No. 4 Australia in the second game on Sept. 28. The USA earned its first
victory over Argentina in 16 years with a 2-1 win during the AstroTurf March
on Madrid in August and earned a 1-1 draw with Australia during the first round of the
