USA Field Hockey U21 Women Top Bermuda; Clinch Spot in Junior Pan Am Championship Semifinals

San Juan, Puerto Rico —  Seven different USA Field Hockey U21 team players scored goals to lift the USA Juniors to a 9-0 win over Bermuda at the  Pan American Junior Championships.

With the win, the USA moves to 4-0 and clinches a spot in the tournament semifinals and can earn the top spot in the Pool B with a win over Puerto Rico on Tuesday.  The Junior Pan Am Championships serve as a qualifying event for the Women's Junior World Cup, Sept. 14-25 in Santiago, Chile. The top three teams from the Junior Pan Am tourney, as well as Junior World Cup host Chile, will qualify for September's event.

The USA received two goals each from Rachel Dawson (Berlin, N.J.) and Katelyn Falgowski (Landenberg, Pa.) while spreading the remainder of the scoring over five players in the USA's largest goal total of the tournament.

Dawson opened the scoring early in the game when she converted a penalty stroke in the third minute. Kathleen O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) upped the USA advantage with a field goal at the 15 minute mark before Laree Beans (Allentown, Pa.) and Lauren Crandall (Doyelstown, Pa.) added penalty corner goals in a two-minute span to increase the lead to 4-0. Heather Schnepf (Medford Lakes, N.H.) added a penalty corner a minute before halftime for a 5-0 USA lead at the break.

Falgowski opened the scoring in the second half with a penalty corner goal for the freely-substituting USA. Mia Link (Jenkintown, Pa.), Falgowski and Dawson concluded the scoring as the USA conservatively played out the final 12 minutes of the game.

High school junior Brianna O'Donnell (Collegeville, Pa.) made her first start in goal for the USA juniors in earning the shutout victory.

The tournament semifinals are scheduled for Thursday.
