USA Field Hockey Women Fall to
Argentina, 4-1
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Argentina scored three second half goals
to break a 1-1 halftime draw and down the USA Field Hockey Women's
National Team, 4-1 in Buenos Aires.
The test match was the opening game for
the USA as the team prepares for a three-nation tournament with
Argentina and Chile beginning Nov. 3.
Marine Russo scored the first of her two
goals for Argentina early in the game after slipping a shot past USA
goalkeeper Amy Tran (Grantville, Pa.). The USA answered in the 16th
minute of the game when Kate Barber (West Chester, Pa.) connected on a
penalty corner in the 16th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
After going in at halftime with the score
still knotted, Argentina struck again 12 minutes into the second half
when Mercedes Margalot converted a penalty stroke to put the world's
second ranked team up for good at 2-1. Magdalena Aicega added a penalty
corner goal in the 53rd minute and Russo collected her second field goal
of the game in the 61st minute to conclude the scoring for Argentina.
Following a practice game with the Buenos
Aires Club team on Wednesday, the USA opens the three-nation tournament
against Chile at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday. The USA will meet Argentina at
7:10 p.m. on Saturday with the tournament classification games set for
Sunday.
