USA Field Hockey Women Conclude Canada Series with 6-0 Win

Kate Barber scored three goals to lift the USA to a 6-0 win over Canada in the series finale

Virginia Beach, Va. – The USA Field Hockey women's national team completed an undefeated six-game series against Canada with a 6-0 win at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center.

The USA went 5-0-1 against their northern neighbors while outscoring Canada, 17-5.

In Sunday's finale, Kate Barber (West Chester, Pa.) scored three goals and April Fronzoni added a pair of scores to give the USA the won.

The game also featured the senior international debut of U.S. goalkeeper Diana Nelson (Old Bridge, N.J.) who earned the shutout victory in her first appearance in the USA cage.

Barber and Fronzoni opened the scoring for the USA on back to back field goals late in the first half. Barber connected on the first of her three goals in the 28th minute past Canada keeper Sarah Forbes before Fronzoni added her first score of the game four minutes later to give the USA a 2-0 halftime lead.

Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) continued the scoring two minutes into the second half on a field goal for her team-leading sixth goal of the series.

Barber completed her hat-trick with back to back goals in the 53rd and 54th minutes before Fronzoni concluded the scoring with a field goal with three minutes left in the game.

Barber and Fronzoni both collected four goals during the series.

The series provided USA coach Lee Bodimeade with a chance to view some potential additions to the U.S. roster as the team prepares for next year's World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Rome. National team veterans Tracey Larson (Morrisville, Pa.) and Keli Smith (Selingsgrove, Pa.) were among the U.S. hopefuls looking to earn spots on the U.S. squad.

The series also provided additional international experience for high school athletes Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) and Katelyn Falgowski (Landenberg, Pa.) as they prepare for this month's Junior world Cup, Sept. 14-25 in Santiago, Chile.

The U.S. national team will return to international action in November at the Four Nations Tournament, Nov. 2-6 with Argentina, South Africa and Spain in Rosario, Argentina.
