USA Field Hockey Women Nip
Canada, 2-1, In Game Five of Series
Virginia Beach,
Va.
– Kate Barber scored on a
penalty corner goal in the final minute of play to give the USA a
2-1 victory over Canada in game five of the six game series at the
USA National Training Center.
With the win, the USA improved its record in the series to
4-0-1. The USA has either led or tied for all but 16 minutes in the
five games.
The USA jumped on top midway through the first half when
Kelly Doton connected on a penalty corner at the 19-minute mark to give her
team a 1-0 advantage
The lead held up through the rest of the first half and
throughout most of the second period until Canda's Andrea Rushton converted
a penalty stroke in the 61st minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Canada's goal set the stage for Barber who netted the
winning goal in the 69th minute to give the USA its fourth victory in the
series
The series concluded with Game six at noon Sunday at the
USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
