Dina Rizzo (center) celebrates her 50th international cap with her USA teammates following a 3-2 win over Canada.

USA Field Hockey Women Top Canada 3-2 in Second Game of Series

Virginia Beach, Va. – Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) scored two second half goals to lift the USA Field Hockey women's national team to a 3-2 victory over Canada in the second match of a six game series at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center.

With her two goals, Loy raised her scoring tally to four goals in two games after collecting a pair of scores in the USA's 3-0 win in game one of the series.

Canada opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the match on a penalty corner goal by Deb Cuthbert. However, the USA's Kelly Dostal (Hatfield, Mass.) answered two minutes later on a penalty corner goal past Canada keeper Sarah Forbes to tie the game at 1-1.

Canada struck again six minutes before halftime when Kim Buker beat U.S. keeper Barb Weinberg (Louisville, Ky.) on a field goal to give the visitors a 2-1 halftime lead.

Loy quickly added the equalizer in the second half off a penalty corner in the 43rd minute and connected on the winning goal with 11 minutes left in the game to give the USA the victory.

The game marked the 50th international appearance for the USA's Dina Rizzo (Walpole, Mass.). The former Univ. of Maryland All-American first earned a spot on the U.S. national team in 2002 and earned a Pan American Games silver medal and appeared in the 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament and two Champions Challenge tournaments as part of her 50-game international career.

The game also marked the first international appearance for the USA's Kayla Bashore (Shoemaker, Pa.).

The USA/Canada series continues with Game 3 at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
