Virginia Beach, Va. – Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) scored two goals to lead the USA Field Hockey women's national team to a 3-0 win over Canada in the first game of a six-game test series at the USA National Training Center.

The series continues the training for coach Lee Bodimeade's USA team in preparation for next spring's World Cup Qualifying Tournament, April 26-May 7, 2006 in Rome Italy. The World Cup is scheduled for next September in Madrid, Spain.

Loy put the USA up midway through the first half on a penalty stroke and then added a penalty corner goal early int he second half to secure the win for the USA.

Appearing in her first international contest since the Pan American Cup in April 2004, April Fronzoni (Larksville, Pa.) capped the scoring for the USA with a field goal in the 55th minute.

Controlling the action throughout the match, the USA shutdown its neighboring rival and limited Canada's scoring opportunities. The goalkeeper of the tournament at July's Rabobank Champions Challenge in Virginia Beach, Amy Tran (Grantsville, Pa.) recorded the shutout in goal for the USA.

The game marked the first international appearance for high school junior Katelyn Falgowski (Landenberg, Pa./St. Mark's High School). A member of the USA Junior World Cup team competing next month in Santiago, Chile Falgowski entered the game in the 26th minute to help contribute to the USA victory.

The game also served as milestones for Canada's Elizabeth Allan and Phillippa Kedgley who picked up their first international caps in the contest.

The USA/Canada series continues with Game 2 at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
