USA Field Hockey Selects Men's Indoor Pan American Cup Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Field Hockey has announced its 12-member men's team for the 3rd Indoor Pan American Cup, Dec. 8-11 in Kitchener, Ontario.

The Indoor Pan Am Cup serves as the continental qualifier for the 2nd Indoor World Cup, Feb. 14-18, 2007 in Vienna, Austria. The top two finishers in the men's Pan Am event are scheduled to qualify for the Indoor World Cup.

The six-team field includes Argentina, Canada, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, the USA and Venezuela.

Selections to the U.S. team include goalkeeper Charles Carney (Jamaica Plain, Mass.), Jeremy Cook (Philadelphia, Pa.),  Patrick Cota (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Steve Danielson (San Diego, Calif.), goalkeeper Brett Dunn (Fairfax, Va.), Zachary Freundlich (Wayland, Mass.), Mick Harner (Hanover, Pa.), Patrick Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), Shawn Hindy (Westlake Village, Calif.), Jesse Larson (Westminster, Md.), Gus Reed (Wainscott, N.Y.) and Sabastian Scheurer (Greenwich, Conn.).

Danielson, a 1996 U.S. Olympian and member of the 2003 USA Indoor World Cup team, will serve as captain of the squad.

Cota, Harris and Hindy are current member of the men's U.S. outdoor national team and joined Danielson and Cook on the first U.S. Indoor World Cup roster. The USA placed 11th at the inaugural Indoor World Cup in 2003.

Harris was the team's leading scorer in a November training tour that took the U.S. squad to Hanover, Germany for a pair of tournaments against top German club teams. Harris scored 11 goals while Harner, Reed and Scheurer added three goals apiece as the USA went 1-7 on the tour.

The U.S. team is coached by former Canada assistant coach Bobby Alexander.

The USA is scheduled to open the tournament against Argentina on Dec. 9 and will continue first-day play against Venezuela and Guyana. The team resumes play on Dec. 10 against Trinidad & Tobago before concluding round-robin play against Canada. The USA placed second in both previous Indoor Pan Am Cup competitions. Canada won the event in 2002 while Cuba took top honors in 2004.
