USA Field Hockey Selects Women's Indoor Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey has announced selections for its 2005-06 national indoor team following team trials held in Feasterville, Pa.

The USA team will compete in the 3rd Indoor Pan American Cup in late 2005 or early 2006. The Pan Am event will serve as a qualifier for the 2nd Indoor World Cup scheduled for 2007 in Vienna, Austria. The top team from the Pan Am Cup will qualify for the 12-team Indoor World Cup

The 12-member squad and three alternates include a dozen repeat selections from the 2004 team. Among those returning to the squad in 2005 are 1988 USA Olympic goalkeeper Donna Chung (Canton, Mass.), 2002 World Cup team member Jill Dedman (Orange, Conn.), 2001-02 Northeastern Univ. All-American Sarah Broderick (Harwich, Mass.), former Univ. of Connecticut  all-region selection Meredith Kirkpatrick (Cambridge, Mass.), former Duke Univ. standout Kim Susko (Somerville, Mass.), 1983 West Chester All-American Debbie Phillips (West chester, Pa.), former USA national team member and Ohio Univ. All-American Lauren Mazziotto (Sewell, N.J.),  former Boson Univ. All-America East selection Jen Nixon-Mathis (Dorchester, Mass.), Tufts Univ. head coach Tina McDavitt (Boston, Mass.) and Drexel Univ. head coach Denise Zelenak (Wilmington, Del.).

Current USA outdoor team members Keli Smith (Bethesda, Md.) and Tara Jelley (San Diego, Calif.) round out the squad. Smith and Jelley most recently competed with the U.S. team at the 2004 Olympic qualifying Tournament and 2004 Pan American Cup.

Alternates to the team include Univ. of Pennsylvania assistant coach Amanda Janney (Philadelphia, Pa.) and 2003 national indoor  team members Sandra Cook (Festerville, Pa.) and Maria Keesling (Downingtown, Pa.). Cook is a former standout at Drexel Univ. ('01) while Keesling was an all-region goalkeeper at Bucknell.

USA Field Hockey also selected three athletes to an indoor developmental squad including Univ. of North Carolina sophomore Laree Beans (Bethlehem, Pa.), Monmouth Univ. junior Janine McMillan (Milltown, N.J.) and Manheim Township High School junior Melissa Martin (Lititz, Pa.).

Northeastern Univ. assistant coach Scott Smith will again serve as head coach for the U.S. team after heading the squad in 2004.
