USA Field Hockey Appoints New Board of
Directors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 24,2005)– USA Field Hockey
has appointed 11 new members to its Board of Directors.
The appointments come as a continuation of
USA Field Hockey’s governance restructuring plan designed to help improve
efficiency through a smaller, skills-based Board of Directors.
Appointed by the Association’s Nominating
and Governance Committee and approved by the USA Field Hockey Executive
Committee, the new board features Southern California controller Billie
Ahluwalia (Irvine, Calif.), former umpiring chair and director of
technical services Barbara Carriero (Wesport, Mass.), athletics and
business consultant Merrily Dean Baker (Estero, Fla.), 1996 USA
Olympic Team head coach Pam Hixon (Amherst, Mass.), advertising
technology executive Christine Hunsicker (New York, N.Y.), civil
engineer James Johnson (Houston, Texas), Michigan State Univ. head
coach Michelle Madison (East Lansing, Mich.), former USA men’s
national team coach Lenny McCaigue (Brookline, N.H.), Octagon sports
marketing account manager Christine
Millbauer
(Easton, Conn.), Penn State Univ. head coach Char Morett (State
College, Pa.) and Boston attorney Daniel Shapiro (Dedham, Mass.).
“I am very pleased with the quality of the
new members of the Board of Directors. The Nominating and Governance
Committee clearly did an outstanding job in the search and selection
process,” said USA Field Hockey President Sharon Taylor.
“The new members represent a great balance to our Board with some members
having previous association with USA Field Hockey and knowledge of our
programs and others bringing a fresh perspective from other organizations
and experiences. I’m really looking forward to working with all of them.”
The new appointments will join Taylor,
Executive Vice President Barbara Doran and Secretary/Treasurer Meri Dembrow
on the 19-member USA Field Hockey Board of Directors. The current Board also
includes Barbara Longstreth and athlete representatives Pat Cota, Andrew
Duncan, Jill Reeve and Jason Wellings.
USA Field Hockey bylaws call for four of the
new appointments to serve through 2006 with the remaining directors serving
through 2008. Individuals may be reappointed to a second term.
In keeping with recommendations by the
Nominating Committee, appointments to the board were made without title or
rank restrictions. The new structure also calls for a reduction in the
number of USA Field Hockey committees. The organization supported 21
committees in 2003.
The new board will meet for training Oct.
2-3 in Colorado Springs and will conduct its first meeting during the NCAA I
Field Hockey Championship semifinals and final, Nov. 19-20 in Louisville,
Ky.
As part of an ongoing process for securing
qualified Board of Directors candidates, USA Field Hockey invites
individuals interested in serving the organization to submit resumes for
future consideration for the Board. Additional information is available on
