USA Field Hockey to Initiate Search
for World-Class Women's National Coach
Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 26) - The United States
Field Hockey Association has announced it will initiate an extensive search for a
world-class coach for the U.S. Womens National Team.
The search begins following the resignation of Beth Anders, interim National
Coach since April 2003, who returned to Old Dominion
University in Norfolk, Virginia in May to resume her career as a collegiate coach.
The U.S. Womens National Field Hockey Team has qualified for
the FIH World Cup Qualifying Tournament in 2006 and narrowly missed qualifying for the
2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In its search
for a coach who can help the US Womens National Team reach its fullest potential,
USA Field Hockey will be working closely with the United States Olympic Committee to
identify coaching qualities and candidates deemed important to the success of the program. USA Field Hockey officials met with the USOC in
early May to begin the planning process for success in the 2005-2008 quadrennium.
USA Field Hockey officials will extend the search to Athens during
the Olympic Games in seeking a coach who can take the US Womens Team back to the
level of excellence previously attained in the 1984 Olympic Games (bronze medal,) 1994 FIH
World Cup (bronze medal) and the 1996 Olympic Games (5th place.)
Interested candidates should contact Sheila Walker, Executive
