B-Camp Athletes
to Take Next Step Toward 2005 USA Field Hockey Team Selections
Colorado Springs --
One hundred eighteen of the country's most promising young field hockey
athletes will get a chance to continue their National Team aspirations
as USA Field Hockey Association opens its annual Women’s B Camp
selection opportunity, July 18-21, at Colgate Univ. in Hamilton, N.Y.
Under the
co-direction of USA National Junior Team coach Tracey Fuchs and Univ. of
Maryland assistant and Canada Olympian Andrew Griffiths, the invited
athletes will spend a week of intensive competition, skills training and
analysis of international tactics and strategies. The athletes earned
their invitations to B Camp as a result of performances at USA Field
Hockey's Summer League, High School and College Open Camps, the Futures
National Tournament and 2004 A Camp. First-team collegiate All-America
selections also earn invitations to B Camp.
The staff for B
Camp also includes USA women’s acting head coach Nick Conway, Univ. of
Miami head coach Jill Reeve, Univ. of Richmond head coach Ange Bradley,
Michigan State assistant coach Dann Polders, Univ. of Iowa head coach
Tracey Griesbaum, Indiana Univ. head coach Amy Robertson, Providence
College head coach Diane Madl, Northwestern Univ. head coach Kelly
McCollum, Columbia Univ. head coach Katie Beach and goalkeeper coaches
Jon O’Haire (Penn State), Justine Sowry (USA Field Hockey) and Lisa
Celluci (Univ. of Iowa)
Based on their
performances at B Camp, athletes may then advance to the next step in
the elite team development process with an invitation to A Camp in early
2005. Selections to the USA Under-19 and Under-21 Teams are made at A
Camp.
