USA Men to Tour Malaysia
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The USA men's field hockey
team will continue its preparations for May's Pan American Cup with a six-game tour of
Malaysia, April 2-14 in Kuala Lumpur.
The USA will face the world's 10th ranked Malaysia team in games April 7,8, 11 while
taking on the Malaysia Junior Team in matches April 5 and 10. A final contest against
either the senior or junior team is scheduled for April 13.
The U.S. men will use the tour to prepare
for the Pan American Cup, May 12-23 in London Ontario. The Pan American Cup serves as the
continental qualifier for the 2006 World Cup with the winner earning the automatic spot in
the sport's premier event.
In Kuala Lumpus, the USA will face a
Malaysian senior team that placed 8th at the 2002 World Cup and earned an 11th place
finish at the 2000 Olympic Games. The Malaysian Junior team captured a 12th place finish
at the 2001 Junior World Cup.
In addition to the Malaysia Tour, the USA
men are tentatively scheduled to host Trinidad & tobago in a pre-Pan Am Cup series May
1-8 in Moorpark, Calif. The team will also attempt to defend its title at the Guru Nanak
Tournament, July 2-4 in Moorpark.
