COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Field Hockey team won’t be competing
in next month’s Olympic Games in Athens, but acting head coach Nick
Conway may still have the best seat in the house when the Olympic Field
Hockey tournament begins, Aug. 14-27.
Conway will serve as
an expert analyst and commentator for NBC’s broadcast of the men’s and
women’s gold and bronze medal games in
Athens.
"I am extremely
excited about the opportunity to work for NBC throughout their coverage
of the Olympic Games,” said Conway. “Hopefully I can help to promote
the development of this great game within the United States by as a
result of this opportunity. It would be nice to help build the
enthusiasm, passion and desire for viewers to want to play hockey."
Although
Conway
would rather be on the sidelines coaching the
USA
women’s team, the USA women narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympic
Games with a sixth place finish at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament
last March.
NBC’s coverage of the
Olympic Games promises to be the most extensive in Olympic broadcast
history with action from every sport contested in
Athens spanning 1,210
hours on the NBC Universal networks (NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Bravo,
Telemundo, NBC HDTV).
The complete Olympic
broadcast schedule will be available on NBCOlympics.com later this
month.
Conway and the field
hockey medal games are scheduled for Aug. 26 for women and Aug. 27 for
the men.
