USA Field Hockey Adds Snow, Loy and Baril to Women's Residency Squad

Colorado Springs (12/08/03) - USA Field Hockey added a pair of high-scoring threats to its offense and an internationally tested goalkeeper to its defense following individual team trials for the U.S. women's national residency squad in Virginia Beach, Va.

USA Field Hockey selectors and head coach Beth Anders added former Old Dominion All-America selections Tiffany Snow (Escondido, Calif.) and Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) and three-time All-America goalkeeper Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) of Princeton Univ. to the USA roster as the team prepares for the Olympic Qualifying tournament, March 19-28 in Auckland, New Zealand.  The U.S. women will need to finish among the top four or five teams at the Qualifier to earn a spot in the 2004 Olympic Games.

A member of the 2004 USA Under-23 team, Snow is a two-time All-America selection at Old Dominion where she earned the Honda Award as the nation’s top collegiate field hockey player in 2002. A 2003 graduate of Old Dominion, Snow scored 71 goals in her Lady Monarch career including 30 goals as a senior in 2002. She scored 17 goals as a sophomore in leading Old Dominion to the 2000 NCAA national championship.  Snow scored 10 goals as a member of the Tidewater Tempest in USA Field Hockey’s 2003 Summer League. Snow becomes the third Honda Award recipient on the current USA roster joining 1987-88 winner Tracey Fuchs (Univ. of Connecticut) and 1997-98 winner Mimi Smith (Old Dominion).

Completing her collegiate career at Old Dominion in 2003, Loy earned All-America first team honors for the second straight year after leading the team in scoring with 24 goals. She was named the 2003 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and earned the 2003 CAA tournament most Valuable Player honor. She scored 77 career goals at ODU and ranked among the scoring leaders in USA Field Hockey’s elite Summer League in 2002 (league leading 9 goals) and 2003 (12 goals).

A three-time All-America (2000, ’01, ’02) at Princeton, Baril joins the USA senior team after previous playing as a member of USA Field Hockey’s junior squads from 1999-2003. At Princeton, Baril recorded 13 career shutouts while guiding the Tigers to four straight Ivy League crowns, three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and a trip to the 2001 NCAA semifinals. As a member of the USA junior teams, she played on the 2001 Junior World Cup team in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and led the U.S. Under-19 team to a tournament championship at the 2000 Montreal Cup.

In preparing for next year's Olympic Qualifier, the U.S. team is tentatively scheduled for a series of matches with qualifier foe Ireland and continental rival Canada, January 10-18 in Stanford, Calif. Dates and times for the matches are yet to be determined, but will be available on the USA Field Hockey website at www.usfieldhockey.com as the details are confirmed.
