Tracey Fuchs scored two goals in the USA's victory over Italy at the Champions Challenge

U.S. Women Hold Off Italy, 4-3, at Champions Challenge

Catania, Italy The U.S. women's national field hockey team shook off a determined Italy team to earn a 4-3 victory over Italy  for the team's first victory of the Champions Challenge.
Tracey Fuchs scored two goals to help lead the U.S. to the win.
The U.S. never trailed in the contest, but couldn't shake their feisty hosts until the end of the first half. Although falling behind by a goal on three different occasions in the first half, Italy came back to tie the U.S. each time before Fuchs finally put her team ahead for good with a minute remaining in the period.
The U.S. jumped out to an early lead when Tracey Larson netted a field goal in the second minute to give the U.S. a quick 1-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived however as Delores Miranda scored Italy's first goal of the tournament to tie the game at 1-1. Fuchs connected on her first goal of the game on a penalty corner a minute and a half later to put the U.S. up 2-1, before Laura Garcia once again delighted the home-country crowd with a field goal to tie the game in the 19th minute.
The game swung back to the U.S. side a minute later when Kate Barber scored a field goal at the 21-minute mark only to have Alissandra Filippi connect for the equalizer with just under four minutes remaining in the half. Fuchs' field goal provided the U.S. with the eventual gamewinner with a minute left in the first half
The U.S. (1-2-0) returns to action on Wednesday against tournament leading Germany (2-0-0).
