U.S. Field Hockey National
Team to Meet Jamaica; Summer League Concludes Round-Robin Play in Virginia Beach
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The U.S. womens national teams
four-game series with Jamaica and the final weekend of the Associations
Summer League round-robin play highlight a full weekend of action at the U.S. Field Hockey
National Training Center in Virginia
Beach.
A combined team of members of the U.S. National
Team and U.S. Under-23 squad open the weekend at 6 p.m. Friday against Jamaica in the first of a four-game series with the
teams Pan American rivals. The U.S. National Team continues play against Jamaica with games at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, 6 p.m. on Sunday and 4:45 p.m. on Monday. All games are open to the public and
there is no charge for admission. The matches
will serve as a preview to the Pan American Games in August. The U.S. and Jamaica will open the Pan A Games against each other
with a 5:30 p.m. match on August 3 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The U.S/Jamaica game on Saturday will be featured during a
mid-day break at U.S. Field Hockey's Summer League which will continue at the Training Center, June 21-22.
This weekends Summer League features
interdivisional play as the teams make their final bid for a spot in the League
semifinals. Defending champion Southern Charm and the Metro Rush stand atop the league
standings with 5-0-1 records, followed by the New England Eclipse and Pennsylvania Pride
with 2-2-2 marks and the U.S. Under-20 Team with a 2-3-1 record. The Virginia Beach-based Tidewater
Tempest enters the weekend in sixth place at 1-2-3 followed by the Midwest Cyclones at 1-4-1 and the Philadelphia Fury at 0-5-1. The top
four teams advance to the league semifinals, July 5-6 in Virginia Beach.
The league features some of the countries top
players including 1996 Olympians Cindy Werley (Charm) and Antoinette Lucas (Eclipse) as
well as former U.S. national team players, collegiate head coaches and collegiate and high
school All-America selections.
Summer League play begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and continues with matches
throughout the day with the final game beginning at 5:30 p.m. Play
resumes Sunday morning at 7 a.m. with the final game scheduled for 3:15 p.m., just prior to Sundays
USA/Jamaica game.
