Charm, Tempest Advance to Summer
League Finals
Virginia Beach - Four-time defending champion
Southern Charm and the Tidewater Tempest earned semifinal wins to advance to the
championship game of U.S. Field Hockey's Summer League.
The championship and consolation
games are scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Sunday at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training
Center. The Charm defeated the Metro Rush, 3-1, and the Tempest defeated the Midwest
Cyclones, 5-3, to advance to the final
Australian Olympian Jackie Pereira
scored two goals to help lift the Charm to its fifth consecutive championship game.
Pereira scoredthe game's first goal in the15th minute and added the clinching goal in the
54th minute to help the Charm advance.
Kerry Falgowski added a penalty
stroke goal in the 19th minute to give the Charm a 2-0 halftime lead, before Jennifer
Stone connected on a field goal in the 52nd minute to pull the Rush to within 2-1.
In the other semifinal, Tara
Hermann scored three goals to help the Tempest advance to its first-ever Summer League
championship game.
The Tempest and Cyclones exchanged
goals throughout the first 54 minutes of the games with the Tempest taking a one goal
leads only to have the Midwest team answer to tie the game.
The Tempest took the lead for good on
a goal by the Univ. of Richmond's Allie Howard with 7 minutes remaining before Hermann
clinched the game with the final goal of her hat trick in the 70th minute.
Liz Sanders, Lindsay Rothenberger and
Alex Kyser scored goals for the Cyclones who will now face the Rush in the consolation
game on Sunday.
