U.S. Field Hockey Women to Host Jamaica in Virginia Beach Series

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresh off a trip to visit Pan American Games foes Chile and Argentina, the U.S. women's field hockey national team will host another Pan Am rival when the U.S. hosts Jamaica, June 20-23 at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.

The four game series will feature a combines U.S. national team/U.S. Under-23 team against Jamaica at 6 p.m. June 20th, followed by games between the two national teams at 12:45 p.m. on June 21, 6 p.m. on June 22 and 4:45 p.m. on June 23.  All games are open to the public and there is no charge for admission.

The June 21 game will be featured during a mid-day break at U.S. Field Hockey's Summer League which will continue at the Training Center, June 21-22.

Like Chile and Argentina, Jamaica will be among the eight continental teams competing in the Pan American Games, Aug. 2-13, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The winner of the Pan Am Games tournament earns an automatic berth in the 2004 Olympic Games. Jamaica and the U.S. will both begin the Pan Am tourney in Pool B along with Canada and Uruguay, while Argentina and Chile will meet Trinidad and Tobago and the host Dominican Republic in Pool A. The U.S. and Jamaica will open the Pan Am Games against each other with a 5:30 p.m. match on August 3.

The USA owns an all-time mark of 2-0 against Jamaica in major intenrational competition including a 4-0 win at the 1995 Pan American Games and a 5-0 win at the 2001 Pan American Cup.

On the Chile/Argentina Tour, the U.S. earned a 3-3-2 record including wins over Chile and Argentina's junior team while the three losses came at the hands of the World Champion Argentina squad.
