Lancaster, West Chester, USA West Capture US Field Hockey National Futures Tournament Titles

VIRGINIA BEACH – Athletes representing the Pennsylvania regions of
Lancaster and West Chester and a mixed team of athletes from the Midwest and Northeast  captured top honors at the U.S. Field Hockey National Futures Tournament at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center.

In the Under-19 division, Lancaster defeated State College, 3-1, to earn its
second straight National Futures Tournament title. The team completed a perfect
6-0 run at the tournament on its way  to the championship. Another Pennsylvania entry, Scranton defeated Holyoke, 3-0 to win the bronze medal.

In the Under-16 Division, West Chester defeated Eastern Shore, 1-0, in the championship game to win the gold medal. In the third place game,
Trenton defeated Norfolk, 2-1

In the tournament’s newest division, USA West, a team of athletes from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Rhode Island, won the four-team Under-14 divison in the age group’s inaugural
appearance at the tournament. The USA West team defeated USA South, 3-2,
for the title.

The 36-team tournament represents the culminating event of U.S. Field Hockey’s Futures Talent Identification Program. Athletes in the program train at regional
sites across the country from January through May with the top players selected
to compete in the National Futures Tournament

At the tournament, the 574 athletes compete for selection to higher level Olympic Development programs including B Camp and the AAU Junior Olympic Games
(for U16 athletes).
