B-Camp Athletes To Take Next Step Toward 2004 U.S. Field Hockey Team Selections

Colorado Springs (July 18, 2003) -- One hundred three of some of the country's most promising field hockey athletes will get a chance to continue their National Team aspirations as the U.S. Field Hockey Association conducts its annual Women's B Camp, July 21-25, at Penn State University.

Under the direction of Olympian and U.S. Field Hockey assistant coach Andrew Griffiths, the invited athletes will spend a week of intensive competition, skills training and analysis of international tactics and strategies. The athletes earned their invitations to B Camp as a result of performances at U.S. Field Hockey's college and high school Open Camps, Futures National Tournament, U.S. Field Hockey’s Summer League and the 2003 A Camp. First-team collegiate All-America selections also earn invitations to B Camp.

Based on their performances at B Camp, athletes may then advance to the next step in the elite team development process with an invitation to A Camp in February, 2004. Selections to the U.S. Under-19 and Under-21 Teams are made at A Camp.  The U.S. national team is selected during an open trial, with the next Open Trial opportunity scheduled for Aug. 28 – Sept. 1 at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
