Metro Rush

Head Coach: Beth Bozman (Princeton)

Players to watch: 2000 Honda Award winner Marina DiGiacomo...High School All-Americans Tiffany Marsh, Lori Hillman, Christy Morgan, Lauren Powley...All-Americans Ilvy Friebe (Princeton), Claire Miller (Princeton) and Adrienne Yoder (ODU)...Former two-time All-American Leah Conte (Bloomsburg)...Former US national squad selection Rachel Barger (2000)... Notes: The Rush placed third in the final league standings in 2001 and the team has the firepower to improve on last year’s finish. Marina DiGiacomo was named the league’s most valuable player in 2001...The team features 11 members of a Princeton team that advanced to the national semifinals in 2001 including Ivy League Player of the Year Ilvy Friebe and Ivy rookie of the Year Natalie Martirosian.

Midwest Cyclones

Head Coach: Nancy Cox (Asst. Michigan)

Players to watch: Olympians Beth Beglin (80, 84, 88), Sheryl Johnson (80, 84, 88), Marcia Pankratz (88, 96)...Former US National Team members Tracey Griesbaum, Lisa Celluci, Natalie Dawson...All-Americans Lauren Mazziotto (Ohio U) and Tiffany Leister (Iowa) and Vanessa Immordino (Ohio St)...US Junior National Team members Mazziotto, Leister, April Fronzoni, Kristi Gannon, Kelsey Keeran and Catherine Blair.

Notes: Head coach Nancy Cox will have plenty of on-the-field help from head coaches Johnson (Stanford), Pankratz (Michigan), Griesbaum (Iowa), former Iowa head coach Beglin and Amy Robertson (Indiana)...The Cyclones have finished second in the league in each of the past two years...Pankratz led Michigan to the NCAA championship in 2001, and the Cyclone roster includes 8 members of the national championship team including NCAA all-tournament team members Steph Johnson, Kristi Gannon and April Fronzoni.... Goalkeeper Celluci was an All-America selection at Iowa and is now an assistant coach with the Hawkeyes.

New England Eclipse

Head Coach: Heather Moles (asst Boston Univ.)

Players to watch: Olympian Barb Marois (‘88, ‘96)...All-Americans Sarah Broderick (Northeastern), Dina Rizzo (Maryland)...2000 All-American Fiore Arrindell... High school All-Americans Jennifer McDavitt, Sara York...US Junior National Team members Broderick, Rizzo, York, Krissy Nesburg, Marcie Boyer.

Notes: One of only two teams (with the Charm) to advance to the United League semifinals in all four previous seasons, the Eclipse place fourth in the league last season...The Eclipse returns 10 members form last year’s team including two-time Olympian Marois... All-American Broderick was named the America East Offensive Player of the Year... Other America East selection include Northeastern’s Arrindell, UNH’s Boyer and BU’s Meredith Long...Goalkeeper Nesburg was an all-region selection at Yale while Katie Scott earned all-Ivy and All-Region honors at Harvard...A two-time high school all-America selection, McDavitt earned three state titles and scored 53 goals in four years at Walpole.

Pennsylvania Pride

Head Coach: Charlene Morett (Penn St.)

Players to watch: All-Americans Kiley Kulina (Penn St), Rachel Miller (E. Stroudsburg), ...High School All-Americana Jill Civic and Kristina Edmonds...US Junior National Team members Kulina, Civic, Heidi Beck, Emily Boyer, Katy Potter, Lauren Stiver

Notes: Returning to the League in 2001 after a brief one-year absence, the Pride narrowly missed a berth in the league semifinals and finished sixth in the final standings. The team includes eight members of Coach Morett’s Penn State team including all-America selection and 2001 Big Ten Player of the Year, Kiley Kulina. Nittany Lions Annie Zinkavich amd Neilye Stoner received all-region honors as did Quinnipiac’s Courtney Ryan.

Philadelphia Fury

Head Coach: Lauren Fuchs (Temple)

Players to watch: Former three-time All-American and US national team member Amy Herz....Former National team member Lindsay Keller (2001)...High School All-Americans Laree Beans, Rachel Dawson, Katie Grant, Brooke Miller, Hillary Schmidt...US Junior National Team members Grant, H. Schmidt, Dawson, Paige Schmidt, Carey Fetting-Smith, Lindsay Miller, Barbara Weinberg.

Notes: One of the youngest United League teams, the Fury features five high school All-Americans in Beans, Dawson, Grant, B. Miller and H.Schmidt while Fetting-Smith earned Rookie of the Year honors in her first season at North Carolina. The team is not without experience however with former National Team members Herz and L. Miller and current collegiate assistants Val Coyle (Delaware), Brittany D’Augustine (American) and Jess McClain (UNH).

Coach Fuchs’ Fury team also includes 10 members of a Temple Univ. squad that climbed to a spot in the Top-20 before finishing the season at 8-11. Temple’s JoAnn Engstrom, Emily Moyer and Kacy Ziomek earned all-MidAtlantic honors in 2001.

Southern Charm

Head Coach: Nick Conway (Assoc. UNC)

Players to watch: US Olympians Liz Tchou (‘96), Cindy Werley (‘96) and Jill Reeve (‘96)...Two-time Australian Olympic gold medalist Jackie Pereira (96, 00)...Current National Team members Reeve and Tara Jelley....Former National Team members Jen Averill (head coach Wake Forest), Michelle (Vizzuso) Crawford, Kelly Dostal and Jana Withrow...High school All-American Amy Stopford... Collegiate all Americans Abby Martin (UNC), Heather Aughinbaugh (Wake) and Kelly Doton (Wake)...US Junior National Team members Abbey Woolley, Steph Fuller, Meredith Keller, Amy Tran, Kim Gogola, Martin and Stopford...All-Region selections Keller, Woolley and Maria Whitehead.

Notes: Every United League franchise is a team of all-stars, but perhaps none have sparkled as brightly as the Charm. Combining veteran player/coaches with national team standouts and top young talent, the Charm has won three straight United League titles.

Tidewater Tempest

Head Coach: Beth Anders (ODU)

Players to watch: Honda Award winners Autumn Welsh (‘01-’02) and Sally Northcroft (‘98-’99)...High School All-American Jenny Angat...Collegiate all-Americans Tiffany Snow (Old Dominion), Tara Herrmann (Old Dominion)... All-Region selection Angie Loy (Old Dominion)... All-CAA selection Kelli Duggan... USA Junior National Team players Claire Laubach, Alexis Martirosian, Katy Moyneur and Katy Tran.

Notes: The Tempest has never advanced to the United League semifinal round, but that trend could change in 2002 with a roster loaded with championship talent. The team includes 13 current or former members of Anders’ Old Dominion squads, including 11 members from the 2000 NCAA Championship team. Current Yale assistant and former US National Team member Pam Neiss played on two NCAA championship teams (‘91, ‘92) at ODU while goalkeeper Staci Smith played on the 1998 NCAA title team...Claire Laubach (Wake Forest), Welsh (Maryland), Alexis Martirosian (Princeton and Kary Moyneur (Michigan) all helped lead their teams to the NCAA Final Four in 2001...Northcroft led the league in goals scored in 2000 with 9.
