Charm Wins Fourth Straight United Airlines Field Hockey League FinalVIRGINIA BEACH The Southern Charm, a team comprised of veteran Olympians along with some of the games brightest young stars, earned its fourth straight United Airlines Field Hockey League title with a 5-0 win over the Midwest Cyclones at the U.S. Field Hockey National Training Center. The Tidewater Tempest won the third place game in penalty strokes following a 2-2 draw with the Metro Rush. Australian Olympic gold medalist Jackie Pereira scored three goals in leading the Charm to the four-peat. Pereira opened the scoring with a diving goal in the 8th minute and 1996 U.S. Olympian Cindy Werley lifted a shot over Cyclone keeper Lisa Celluci in the 19th minute to give the Charm a quick 2-0 lead. Wake Forest All-American Kelly Doton, one of the Charms top young stars, added to the lead just before halftime with a hard shot past Celluci on a penalty corner in the 32nd minute. Pereira concluded the scoring with field goals in the 36th and 67th minutes. In the consolation game, Ilvy Friebe scored her fourth and fifth goals of the weekend to give the Rush a 2-0 second half lead, but it wouldnt be enough as the Tempest fought back to tie the game at the end of regulation and earn the eventual victory in penalty strokes, 3-2. Former NCAA Player of the Year Sally Northcroft initiated the Tempest comeback with a field goal in the 58th minute, and high school All-American Jenny Angat tied the game two minutes later to send the contest to penalty strokes.
